Singer, guitarist and songwriter Luke says:
“After several years of songwriting with the band, I’m very happy to be working with Astral Haven Records towards the release of our debut album. We are continuing our long-time relationship with producer Paul Guerin (Quireboys, Down N’Outz, Black Eyed Sons), and it’s being recorded and co-produced by Andy Hawkins at The Nave. We’ve got a great collection of songs to finalise work on, exploring our sound and adding new dimensions to the Hearts & Souls. I am very much looking forward to working with Astral Haven Records and intend to release a proper rock ‘n’ roll record that showcases our full-spectrum 70’s style”.
Comments guitarist Tom Q:
“It’s been a wild ride so far with H&S, and the guys at Astral Haven really get what we’re going for – it’s exciting to be able to collaborate with people who want the same thing as us, which is to make authentic, rocking music and get it out there! We have a philosophy of not doing anything by halves, we have really high standards for our music and Astral Haven, Paul and Andy are all as enthusiastic as us about doing it right. We’re taking no prisoners with this record, fingers will be bleeding by the end of it! Hearts & Souls have always been a band with a wide-range of influences, but the one thing they all have in common is the work that goes into the songcraft. Whether it’s a single overdubbed line or the musical centre-piece of the track, everything will be getting the same care and attention, and we are going to make sure that shows”!
Formed by frontman Luke Smithson (vocals, guitars) during lockdown following a stint touring with The Quireboys, Hearts & Souls quickly took shape with longtime collaborator Tom Q Cusic (guitars, vocals). The pair’s two-decade partnership recalls iconic duos like Richards/Wood and Whitford/Perry. The lineup is completed by Alan Sullivan (bass, vocals), whose eclectic career spans punk, soul, and grindcore, and powerhouse drummer Jimmy Milne (drums, vocals), a seasoned player with international touring credentials, including SXSW.
Since releasing their debut “Nights of My Days” EP in 2023 with producer Paul Guerin (The Quireboys, Down N’ Outz), Hearts & Souls have earned live acclaim at festivals like HRH and opened for acts such as Wayward Sons. Their follow-up singles — “Whispers” (2024), featuring Sam Wood (Wayward Sons, Black Star Riders), and Anjalie (2024) — expanded their reach with international radio play and press coverage. In 2025, “Little While” marked another high point, resonating with fans for its raw honesty and relatability.
Now, under Astral Haven Records, Hearts & Souls are set to push forward with their debut album, festival appearances, and more new music in the pipeline.
Stay tuned for more news about the band’s next steps.
