After Lapse is a Spanish progressive metal band formed in 2018 by drummer Roberto Cappa, keyboardist Pablo Sancha, and initial guitarist Arturo Rodríguez. The band underwent several personnel changes over the years, with Rodríguez eventually being replaced by guitarist Jorge Escudero. In December 2022, After Lapse released their debut album, “Face the Storm”, via Frontiers Music. The album features guest guitar solos from Vhaldemar’s Pedro Monge and Persefone’s Carlos Lozano.
The band’s prog metal has various power metal elements and a few modern ones as well. After Lapse is influenced by bands like Dream Theater, Pain Of Salvation, Haken, Seventh Wonder, Kamelot and Angra, among others. The musicianship is strong and the production tight and powerful on the whole.
The band’s technical skills are not over overlapping their ability to focus on the melodic side of their songwriting. This is obvious in their songs’ wonderful melodies and harmonies, as well as catchy refrains and fascinating guitar and keyboard solos.
Ultimately, “Face the Storm” is a terrific melodic prog metal album. Bear in mind that this is only their debut release, so there will be more from this band in the future, and their future appears to be quite bright. After Lapse’s debut will please the majority of the prog metal fans.
