Although it took them six years to release a new album, Blitzkrieg made a strong comeback. It’s strange for a band that’s been around for 45 years to release a self-titled album, but if that’s how they feel, who am I to say otherwise?
Brian Ross is a legend of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) and has nothing left to prove. His career with Blitzkrieg and Satan speaks for itself. Surrounded by his son, Alan Ross (guitar), powerhouse drummer Matt Graham, bassist Liam Ferguson, and virtuoso guitarist and producer Nick Jennison, he could only deliver something really good and inspiring to younger heavy metal bands. After all, Blitzkrieg inspired bands like Metallica and Megadeth and probably still inspires the new generation of metal musicians.
So, what should one expect from “Blitzkrieg”? Heavy metal music with plenty of ‘80s influences and a fresh yet organic sound. Guitarist Nick Jennison is responsible for the dynamic production. The sound is raw enough to feel authentic, yet crisp enough to compete with today’s metal heavyweights.
“Blitzkrieg” is an album that will probably appeal to all metalheads and especially to those who are into 80s metal music. They stay true to their NWOBHM roots, delivering songs with nice melodies, great vocals, and heavy guitars. What’s not to like here? The new album honors the band’s heritage and proves that these veterans still have plenty left in the tank.
