Eclipse is one of the top bands in the melodic hard rock genre due to their talent and hard work. They somehow manage to put out an album every couple of years while maintaining their music quality. Erik Mårtensson (vocals, guitars, keys) and Magnus Henriksson (guitars) are one of the greatest songwriting teams of our time. Undoubtedly, the rhythm section, consisting of Philip Crusner on drums and Victor Crusner on bass, provides a solid base for the impassioned songs.
The band is in great shape, and it shows in every aspect of the album. Sometimes harder, and other times mellower, they do blend AOR, melodic rock, and hard rock brilliantly together. The production is tight, dynamic, and clean, with a contemporary vibe. Of course, Erik is a skilled producer, so he couldn’t produce anything less than excellent for his own band.
From the opening banger, “The Hardest Part is Losing You”, Eclipse straight up sets the vibe for what’s to follow… strong harmonies, catchy choruses, rockin’ guitars, and keen lyrics. Then follows the hard rocking avalanche… “Got It!” (pop-rocker with a modern vibe), “Anthem” (the title says it all!), “Children of the Night” (with the Sabbath influences), “Hearts Collide”, “I Don’t Get It”, “So Long, Farewell, Goodbye”, “High Road” (where bass player Victor Crusner sings), “One Step Closer to You” and “Forgiven”.
With “Megalomanium”, Eclipse has established their position as one of the premier melodic hard rock bands of our time. Fans of melodic rock and hard rock music, as well as those who enjoy well-crafted, motivating, and enthralling music, should check out this album.
