It was a true melodic hard rock revolution back in 2021 when Nestor managed to release their debut album independently after ages! The Grande Rock webzine was one of the first (if not the first) to realize that their debut “Kids in a Ghost Town” was one of those AOR / Melodic gems that should not go unnoticed, and we not only presented it here but also interviewed the band’s vocalist and songwriter, Tobias Gustavsson.
From that moment on, I knew it was only a matter of time before the band would be signed by a major label, which they did when they joined Napalm Records. After that, the band got more publicity and recognition; they played several shows and even managed to get their own festival in their home country. In a few words, Nestor made it, and they are living the big rock dream they had since 1989, when they were formed.
“Teenage Rebel” is their sophomore release that I was waiting for with anticipation to tell you the truth. I was sure that the boys would be able to continue making great songs like they did on their debut. And so they did! I’ve listened to the album many times, and every song has something to offer the listener. These guys know how to rock. The big hooks, the amazing vocals, the rockin’ riffs, the great solos, and the solid rhythm section demonstrate that Nestor not only love what they do, but they can do it amazingly well!
The production is dynamic with a modern touch. Tobias Gustavsson and Håkan Glänte are responsible for the final result. The album was mixed by Sebastian Forslund and Håkan Glänte at Valborg and Stargazer Studios and mastered by the renowned producer Thomas Plec Johansson (Soilwork, Mayhem, Thundermother, etc.) at The Panic Room.
If you’re looking for melodic (hard) rockers and AOR anthems then, “We Come Alive”, “Teenage Rebel”, “Last to Know”, “Victorious”, “Caroline”, “Addicted to Your Love” (with early Bon Jovi influences), and “Unchain My Heart” will make your day. Moreover, if heartfelt ballads are your thing, songs such as “The One That Got Away” and “Daughter” (the best father – daughter hymn of our time) will delight you to the fullest.
“Teenage Rebel” successfully captures the spirit of 80s AOR / Melodic Rock while offering something fresh and relevant for today’s listeners. It’s an exceptional follow-up to their debut, which shows that Nestor have a lot more to offer our beloved music and that they deserve every success they’ve had so far. “Teenage Rebel” is another winner for the band.
