Returned To The Earth is a UK band formed in 2014 with five albums under their belt. Their latest album, “Stalagmite Steeple”, follows the acclaimed “Fall of the Watcher”, which was released in 2022. Those who have been following the band for some time will be pleasantly surprised once again…for those who don’t know them yet, this is the perfect time to discover a rather underrated but musically very talented band.
The band’s crossover prog music is full of atmospheric, mellow, emotional, melodic, and melancholic elements along with pop-rock and art rock influences. Some of the bands that have influenced their sound are Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, The Pineapple Thief, and Airbag, among others. As for the lyrics, they are really thought-provoking, deep, and expressive. They fit the music perfectly and make the listener think while listening.
The musicianship is great, as all the guys, Robin Peachey (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Steve Peachey (keyboards), and Paul Johnston (drums, guitars, keyboards), are really skilled and complement each other beautifully. The production is crystal clear and full. The album was produced and mixed by Paul Johnston and mastered by well-known musician and producer Steve Kitch (The Pineapple Thief).
“Stalagmite Steeple” is an album that should be listened to from start to finish without interruption. However, this ain’t an easy listening album for any time of the day. You have to listen to it repeatedly and be in the mood to dive into its atmospheric, moody, esoteric, and melancholic world to feel it to the fullest. Fans of the band are in for a treat. Those who are new to the band are going to be amazed. This is the perfect time to discover a band that’s underrated but musically impressive. One thing is for sure: “Stalagmite Steeple” is one of the best releases of 2024!
