Taboo is a new hard rock band from Denmark featuring the talents of vocalist Christoffer Stjerne from the Danish band H.E.R.O. and guitarist Ken Hammer, a founding member of Pretty Maids. Their self-titled debut album was self-produced and engineered by the band, but mixed and mastered by Danish eminent producer Jacob Hansen, known for his work with Pretty Maids, Arch Enemy, Avantasia, Dynazty and Volbeat, among others.

Taboo’s sound is modern, yet not overly polished, resulting in a melodious yet rockin’ outcome. Christoffer Stjerne, a singer, producer and songwriter, has already gained a strong following with H.E.R.O., releasing three albums, topping the radio and sales charts in Japan, and playing numerous shows worldwide. Ken Hammer, with a four-decade career in Pretty Maids, is known for his songwriting skills and his shard heavy riffs. Additional musicians on the album are Claus Langeskov on bass (“Flames”, “Learning to Breathe”, “Demons”, “Into the Sun”), Mat Sinner on bass (“Bleeding” & “In My Head”) and Anders Kirkegaard on drums (“Flames”). The band has also assembled a live lineup with plans to tour in the coming years.

The songs on Taboo’s debut album showcase their modern take on melodic hard rock, blending elements of pop, rock and heavy music. The band’s modern melodic hard rock music both challenges and amuses the listener. The traditional hard rock fans will fancy this album despite its modern approach. The same goes for the younger followers, who listen to modern rock music that isn’t too heavy. Standout tracks include the opener “Flames”, the catchy “Bleeding”, the wonderful & modern “Learning to Breathe”, the heavy “Demons”, the AORish “Into the Sun” and the sentimental semi-ballad “Daydream”. Overall, Taboo’s debut is a strong release that demonstrates their distinct style and future potential.
