Almost 4 years after their previous release, “Tunguska”, Treat are back with a new studio album and new bassist, Nalle Påhlsson (Last Autumn’s Dream, Vindictiv, Gathering of Kings), who is not so new since he has played with the band in “Coup de Grace” album in the past.
Even though it’s not that easy to keep it up after 37+ years in the scene, these Swedes have managed to overcome all the bad things that have occurred in the last 2 years and they came up with a very inspiring release that stays true to the band’s values. Great songwriting, amazing melodies and strong production with a modern touch. The guy who’s responsible for the production is Peter Mansson (who also helmed “Tunguska” and “Ghost of Graceland”), who’s no stranger to the band. The overall sound exhales a freshness and positivity in general.
Vocalist Robert Ernlund is like having a second youth, as he sounds so clear and smooth on this album… his voice is like the good ol’ wine, I guess! Likewise, the other members, guitarist Anders “Gary” Wikström, drummer Jamie Borger, keyboardist Patrick Appelgren and bass -player Nalle Påhlsson are also following in the same pace.
The album features some lil gems like “Rabbit Hole”, “Home of the Brave”, “Both Ends Burning”, “My Parade”, “Magic” and “To the End of Love”… then again all the songs are rather enjoyable on the whole. In a few words, “The Endgame” is probably the best release of Treat since “Coup de Grace”!
