Wig Wam returns with their latest album, “Out of the Dark”, only two years after their “reunion release” “Never Say Die”! This Norwegian group of guys has been around since 2001 and has been consistently delivering hard rock anthems with attitude and style. And that’s quite obvious on their new album, where they really rock like crazy.
The album opens with the self-titled song, “Out of the Dark”, a pure melodic hard rock anthem, and possibly one of the hardest songs the band has ever released. I recall being amazed by their energy when I first heard the song and watched the video. To be honest, I was looking forward to this album, as I’m following the band since their debut.
“High n Dry” is a glam rocker track with a nice chorus, while “Forevermore” has a melodic rock flavor and will undoubtedly become a fan favorite with its catchy anthemic refrain. “Bad Luck Chuck” takes us back to the 80s, where glam and sleaze metal ruled the scene. A fun track with Poison and Van Halen influences. “Uppercut Shazam” continues in the same 80s-like hard rock & sleazy style. “Ghosting You” is a nice hard rocker with a great guitar solo. “The Purpose” is the album’s ballad; an emotive song with a wonderful chorus, as well as some thoughtful lyrics. Back to the 80s hard rock days with the straightforward rocker “The American Dream”. “79” is an incredible instrumental with an amazing guitar melody. The song is largely inspired by Gary Moore’s “The Loner”, but that’s not a bad thing. You will surely enjoy it as much as I did. “God by Your Side” is my least favorite track on the album. For some reason, it appears to be a bit out of focus. “Sailor and the Desert Sun” is a nice song, however I think they could have closed the album better, but that’s just my opinion. In a few words, each track on “Out of the Dark” showcases the band’s passion for rock music. The album’s production is full, clear and dynamic. It’s most likely their best production to date.
“Out of the Dark” is a remarkable demonstration of hard rock n’ roll energy, with a fresh burst of creativity and excitement. This album displays the band’s strong musicianship and songwriting talent, and it’s certain to please both the diehard fans and new ones. If you’re looking for a fun and expressive melodic hard rock album, then “Out of the Dark” is for you.
