Opening up the Halloween night, The Sylvee had people slowly entering the venue. Some were dressed for the night, and others weren’t concerned with costumes… they were just there to rock! The background music filled the building with so many different genres. I would love to know who selected them. It went from Rap, to metal, to rock then to metal.
Then the music slowly faded… And then Lylvc takes the stage! They came out in costumes, which you would expect tonight. But the music overshadowed that! Alyse and Oscar brought it! It reminded me a little of Evanescence. But they definitely had their own flavor. Ryan, Cam and Seth filled every song with thunderous riffs. Cam not only played keys, and aggressively I may add, but destroyed on the guitar! Great start to the evening!
As the night progressed, a few more fans entered the show. It was Halloween night on a Tuesday, and we didn’t expect a huge crowd. But it has its perks when there’s not a capacity crowd. Again, the mixed background played lightly, which allowed people to talk, which is refreshing for once. Most venues drown people in between set music, which sometimes becomes a nuisance.
The volume drops, the next ba… Umm.. The Powerpuff Girls… Err… Ok. Fame On Fire. I didn’t know what to expect, like I said, and now, even more so. But they drove it home! The band connected with the audience immediately. For being the second band in, and before the headliner. Their electrifying performance and covers of some songs from artists like Linkin Park, really kept fans interested and energized.
Once again, the background music is back on. As I looked around, I would say, The Sylvee was at about one-third capacity. Which wasn’t what we expected. But, like I said, it was a Tuesday… and Halloween.
Pop Evil slowly creeps up on the stage. Looking at them, each member was dressed in their favorite horror characters. They had Scream, Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween and more. Pop Evil, from Michigan, have seven studio albums including recently released “Skeletons”, six songs from which make up part of tonight’s playlist.
Throughout the set, they slowly removed bits and pieces of the costumes, which I get, considering how hot a stage is. They went through old favs like, “Deal With the Devil”, “Footsteps”, and played new bangers, “Paranoid” and “Skeletons”. Overall, a great show, even with the smaller crowd.
We stayed until the end of the night and even had the chance to meet a few of the members of Lylvc. We will have an interview possibly soon with them. They were all very happy to meet people and take the time to talk. Give a listen to Pop Evil’s latest album “Skeletons” and as Leigh says “I know it’s a morbid visual, but behind every skeleton, there’s a story and something worth talking about. Overall, it’s about looking at something in a positive way”.
