Any Given Sin is a Maryland-based modern hard rock band. “War Within” is the title of their debut album. Victor Ritchie, the band’s outstanding vocalist, has a soaring & crispy voice reminiscent of Brent Smith of Shinedown. Mike Conner’s guitar riffs and solos range from hard and chugging to melodic. The rhythm section, comprised of bassist Rich Stevenson and drummer Mike Showalter, provides a tight and strong foundation for the band’s sound.
Musically, the band blends hard rock, current metal, and alternative metal. In any case, they have a personal sound that is not very usual for a newcomer. In addition to that, Any Given Sin has the ability to write strong songs with catchy melodies that are stronger at times and mellower at others. Victor has an incredible voice that steals the show from the very first moment. Not to say the other guys aren’t skilled musicians or anything, but an amazing voice always enhances the final outcome. Furthermore, thought-provoking lyrics that engage the listeners are a big plus for any band. Here, the lyrics mostly deal with themes of inner conflict, self-discovery, loss, and redemption.
The production is dynamic, polished, and professional, with a clear and punchy sound. The instruments and vocals are all well-mixed, and the musicianship is great. The album was produced by the well-known producer Chris Dawson (Saul, Ovtlier, Shallow Side, etc.) and mastered by Mike Kalajian (We Came As Romans, Vexes, Covet, etc.).
I prefer not to do a track-by-track analysis, as everybody will have their personal favorites amongst the album’s 11 songs. And believe me, there are plenty of songs for everyone to relish.
“War Within” is a well-crafted debut album that demonstrates that this band has a bright future ahead of them. The band is already touring nonstop in order to establish a name for themselves and become more known amongst hard rock and metal fans everywhere. If you’re on the lookout for some fresh new vibes from a totally amped-up band, this is the real deal. Be assured that you won’t be disappointed!
