Rexoria returns almost 4 years after their previous album “Ice Breaker” with their third studio work, “Imperial Dawn”, under a new music label. The band has evolved in every aspect of their music over the years, and their most recent studio album demonstrates this in the best possible way. Also, Edwin Plemberg from Metalite plays the keys on the album.
The pop melodies and the power metal dynamics, along with some electronic elements make for a well-balanced album on the whole. I’d describe it as a cross between Abba, Metalite and Battle Beast! The frontwoman Frida Ohlin has an incredible voice that fits this kind of music wonderfully. I should also mention the other guys, Jonas Gustavsson on guitar & bass, Cristofer Svensson on guitar and Martin Gustavsson on drums, who provide extra energy and power to each song here.
The production is powerful and tight. The album was mixed by Stefan Hellblad from Within Temptation and mastered by the renowned Thomas Plec Johansson. Perhaps the vocals are a bit upfront in the mix, but some fans enjoy it that way, especially when you have a voice like Frida’s. The band’s heavy guitar riffs and pounding rhythm section create a solid foundation for the passionate vocals.
“Imperial Dawn” is a strong album that will please the fans who fancy power metal with poppy melodies and female vocals. I think this album will help the band gain more exposure and new fans.
