There are already quite few people when I enter the room, but I’m not surprised as the first act of the night is Dead Writers, a rock band from London. It’s the second time that I have the pleasure to see them live and I’m really excited! Back in December, when I saw them for the first time, I was so captured by their energetic and romantic music and by singer Paul Shine charisma.
Dead Writers is a band with an instantly recognisable personality and their music includes ambitious song-writing with a dark vintage rock sound, compelling lead vocals over swirling guitars memorable choruses and an aura of bittersweet romanticism. Their songs, influenced by the 70s rock with a touch of 80s dark wave, sound fresh and deep. When they perform you can feel whole the emotions of their lyrics surrounding you, so powerful! And has their signature mark, during “December”, Paul takes the bunch of roses that he has and hands them out to three lucky ladies in the crowd; this is definitely my favourite moment of the night. Let yourself be hypnotize by their neo-Baudelairean aesthetics, mystery and pure electricity and you won’t regret it!
Their live performances have so far earned an incredible crowd in the London circuit. If you haven’t seen them live yet, I’m not sure what are you waiting for!!
Time for a super short bread and up next we have The Karma Effect, a London based dirty vintage sweet rock and roll quintet.
Forming a band during a global pandemic is never easy, but nothing was going to stop a group of friends that got together as a response to the enforced situation. They managed to get together in the studio and write an incredible album, “The Karma Effect” that was released just few weeks ago, on March 18th, 2022. Their music draws influence from the iconic sound of the 70s rock, and bands like The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin, while adding all the swag from artists like Aerosmith and The Black Crowes. By mixing both sides, they managed to bring alive and make their own, the exciting and fresh sound that the music industry is craving.
They are phenomenal on stage and their songs have a tight and groovy rhythm section, with infectious guitar riffs and soaring vocal melodies. Tonight is only their 8th show, but they are definitely born to play, what an incredible energy! Not to mention, lead singer Henry Gottelier’s incredible voice.
They are for sure a great fit for the night and even more a great fit to play intimate venues as well as huge arenas. A must watch!
After these incredible two bands, it is now the time for Scarlet Rebels, a Welsh rock band. As for Dead Writer, Scarlet Rebels are also not new to me; I’ve seen them live back in January 2020 just before the whole covid situation started.
All the rage and fear of uncertainty of recent times has been poured into their new and second album, “See Through Blue”, which was released on Jan 28th, 2022. The 11 tracks result in the rarest rock ‘n’ roll album with a sense of purpose.
At this point the room is full of roaring people, calling their name; and so it begins! Once again they are not disappointing, the harmonies and rhythm of the songs are like a deja-vu to me and bring me back to the first time I saw them performing. Lead singer Wayne Doyle keeps thanking the crowd for the huge support that have been giving them during the past 6 to 12 months and celebrating with all of us the achievement of being in really high up positions in official charts, including the latest #7 UK Official Album Chart Feb 2022. Incredible achievements!
Their lyrics are soaked with a sense of injustice and other bolder emotions that are palpable in the room tonight. Scarlet Rebel’s sound is even bigger that their ambition; the band fuses the energy of classic hard rock with the vital modern edge of alt-rock, resulting in timeless and vivid songwriting.
Some of you might not know it, but the name Scarlet Rebels was inspired by the band’s local rugby team, the Llanelli Scarlets.
It has been an incredible night full of amazing artist!
